I was installing a new CPU (3900x) and this happened. I upgraded an x470-I with a 2600, I did all the necessary BIOS updates and it booted fine after w/ the 2600.

Yes, no change. Tried different monitors, same result. I havent tried disconnecting the GPU yet but I'm not sure what would have changed. It's still plugged in fine.

Is that APU? Or CPU only?

I just checked, it is jot an APU, no integrated graphics. Gonna try to put the 2600 back in

when did you do the BIOS update? ryzen motherboards tend to have updates fairly often for bugfixes and compatability issues. some gigabyte boards also have embedded controller firmware updates which have to be installed separately from the normal BIOS updates. also, if you can get it to post again with the 2600, do a CMOS reset with the jumper before swapping CPUs and don't power it back on until the new CPU is installed

That's 80x25 VGA text mode. Do current UEFI even use that?

You bricked your board, lemme guess you used the in guest OS exe file to try and flash right?

Also upgrade your ram to ecc ram. And use the screwdriver jumper trick on pin connectors.

You can look at your manufacturers website for GPU bios updates, but I doubt that's the issue. Your new CPU likely is DOA

Nothing's bricked except maybe the cpu, cuz it boots just fine w/ the old cpu in, just tried it.

Update:

Rolled bios back to an earlier version and these glitches dont show up, but the system still doesnt post. 2600 still posts fine. Is my cpu DoA?

In addition to this should I just buy a new motherboard and not duck with this anymore before trying to rma it?.

Radeon VII. Upon further inspection seems to be a problem with my GPU just not being picked up at POST, seeing the VGA error led. That said, the problem doesn't happen with my 2600 on the same BIOS version.

I would guess its probably PCIe 4 issues on that motherboard if the vendor hasn't disabled it yet/updated the agesa that disables it.
maybe there is an option to turn it off in the BIOS. could also be memory issues if your memory is overclocked.

This was actually happening on the patch that noted that it disabled it. Rolling back to the patch prior just nothing showed up on the screen at all and I got a VGA error light. And my memory is only overclocked if enabling xmp/whatever that amd equivalent is counts.

I was probably gonna buy an x570-I, I'm limited to an itx form factor (cant even use that beautiful dtx impact board Asus made), but if I can get this x470 board working..

did you completely clear all the cmos shit before installing the new CPU?
I'd upgrade to the new bios and verify that it boots again then
I would clear it with the jumper and pop the battery then unplug the power and discharge everything completely
then install the 3900x
I know it sounds retarded or tech supporty, but thats all I can think of really.

I did, except I didnt attempt to remove the cmos battery because I didnt immediately see it on my motherboard and figured the jumper'd be fine.

also, maybe removing the card on first boot and seeing if you get HDD activity might help narrow down
if its a GPU -> motherboard issue with the new PCIe4 stuff on the Zen2

When was the last time you did a BIOS update before trying this time? Did you reset your BIOS settings before slapping in the 3900X? Is your chipset driver up to date as well?
