it has the default trading pair because nothing else can compete
you're making an argument that 160k coins caught up in a bankrupcy case is going to crash bitcoin when ethereum premined 12million for the developers and premined/sold an additional 60million. That unfair distribution should have prevented ethereum from even taking off. Not to mention they are centralized enough to fork coins backwards and a who slew of other issues with hosting ICO scams.
No way any respectable exchange would allow ethereum to be a point of reference of main trading pair. All you'll get is cryptokitties and tokenscams clogging your centralzied chain.
