The problem wasn't Hitler, but German mentality. Three decades before the Holocaust Germans exterminated more than 80% of the population of Namibia (more than 100 000 people). When you read the details, you see killing of children, medical experiments on living humans, forced starvation, skull measurements in order to prove German racial superiority over blacks, etc. You see exactly the same behavior, except that Hitler was just a teenager back then and Nazi party didn't even exist. No other European colonial power behaved in such a genocidal way in Africa. The problem is clearly with German people being more genetically inclined to be sadistic psychopaths. I have a hard time imagining Irish people conducting medical experiments on living humans, or Italians putting millions of children in gas chambers, or French masterminding the invasion of Spain in order to starve 80% of Spaniards to death and repopulate the area with French colonists. You have to have a certain hardware, a fucked up neurobiology, a twisted insular, sadistic, fanatical and unempathetic mindset in order to do this on a large scale. Most nations are normal. Germans clearly are NOT.

Another thing is cultural legacy. The problem with Germany is that if you exclude Nazism from Germany, you should also exclude Wagner because he was an originator of this idea of the metaphysical struggle for the world domination between Germans and Jews and greatly influenced Hitler. You should also exclude Nietzsche because he coined this idea that Christian humanism sucks and you can kill, rape, pillage and wage wars as long as you can get away with it, only power and domination matters, empathy and compassion are for women and gays. And don't forget about excluding Hegel who worshipped war, Prussian militarism and statism. And of course Heidegger who was a member of the Nazi party. Without those Nazi-leaning figures, there is pretty much nothing left in German culture.
