galician-tier weather in most of the country
i like that they have chill acoustic guitar music in the radio
Some day, some way, together we will be baby. I will take and you will take your time. We'll wait for our fate. Coz nobody owns us baby. We can shake, we can shake the rock.
>galician-tier weather in most of the country
That's only in the north and the azores islands.
The classic explanation given by high school teachers is that it all started in our Discovery period when our poets wrote about wives awaiting their husbands return from sea exploration for months, sometimes years, sometimes forever.
This song is inspired in those old poems.

Even our rock songs are mellow.

>Discovery period when our poets wrote about wives awaiting their husbands return from sea exploration for months
that kind of theme was explored in galician-portuguese literature since the XIV century

“There are ships sailing to many ports, but not a single one goes where life is not painful.”
— Fernando Pessoa
Anglos did the same but all they could come up with was 'yar har har and a bottle o' rum'
"Ó mar salgado, quanto do teu sal. São lágrimas de Portugal!(...)"
"Oh salty sea, how much of your salt, are tears of Portugal!"

Saudade is a term that exists in all Islamic cultures under different names (sevdah in Bosnia, for instance) and denotes extreme melancholy. So maybe it's Alberto's doing?
The metal injection review gave it 9/10, but i don´t know, i think nothing will ever beat the Wolvheart album
>Waitugal
Classic, that album jumps into our deepest roots
This is was actually the first time I saw these fuckers live

1 Etymology
Etymology
The term " saudade " comes from the Latin word " solitas ", by its declined form " solitate (m) ". [ 4 ] [ 5 ] He spent the Galician-Portuguese as " soedade "> " soïdade " [ 6 ] [ 7 ] that gave rise to " soidade " in Galician language , [ 8 ] " suidade " in language mirandesa [ 9 ] and "soudade "in Portuguese . [ 5 ] [ 7 ] It is thought that the influence of " health " and " welcome " came the variant" nostalgia "that currently predominates in Portuguese . [ 4 ] [ 7 ] The Latin root was productive in other Romance languages , for example in Castilian "soledad" , but none of them got the same meaning as in the Portuguese language.

Well, the North is where most people live anyway.
Outside of Faro, most of the population lives in the northern half of the coast where it rains a ton anyway (it rains more in the north, sure, but even in Lisbon it rains a lot).
This one is an absolute classic

the weather like others said
this past month it rained for 28 days out of 31 in my town Viseu.
450mm just this month, not far from London's annual average (600mm)
Well, lets not pretend that this month wasn't an exception.
That said, it usually rains almost twice the amount, just not concentrated on a single month, but instead pread out over 4 or 5 winter months.
Yes, also the name for "orange" in many languages is literally "Portugal" because Portuguese traders made a killing by selling oranges everywhere.
Special mention of Bossa Nova:

Not Portuguese, but in Portuguese. Interesting that it usually sounds much happier, but the lyrics are always very sad as well.
Is Coimbra the most nostalgic city in Portugal?
It's known for being a city of students and fado. For most of our history, Coimbra had the only university in the country.
It has nothing to do with the weather. The sad folk songs (songs) are mostly typical of Coimbra and Lisbon, and slow melodic songs are also typical of Alentejo - all of these places are sunny and bright.
Quim Barreiros came from Norte, so I don't see why people think rainy weather makes for sad singing.
>The sad folk songs (songs)
*(fado)
Sort of, yes.
Up until the 60's/70's and ubiquitous transport/communication, every student of Coimbra (then the best university we had) had to return home after studying their course to help their parents with their new job and salary, and would likely never see their friends again.
Hence where Coimbra fado came from, letting go of the times of youth and temporary independence and going back to a life of working and responsibilities again.
Lisbon fado came from whores, I believe.
