There's one unique sounds that I can describe it as the sound of diesel engine starting but I can't find them anywhere online.
it's big as well, loudest and smells like a dusty moldy old cupboard.

yes, don't know which variety is the one that lives here, though and i've never actually seen them, but they're really annoying
>sing
More like screech. Hearing them early in the morning is a sign that it's going to be an insufferably hot day ahead.
ツクツクツクツク
nice. they signals weather it would be raining or not and when it's sunset so children will head straight back home. the big one sounds like an alarm clock of the evening.
*whether
Swede on vacation in Japan
Yes in Japan
No in Sweden

How they sound here.
Only in warm-hot areas
>inb4 mexico is a desert full cacti
we have temperate zones too.
My old folk used to tell me that that if they silence in a sudden, it means T-I-G-E-R-S are nearby.
The brown one in my OP pic sounds like this one midway of their singing although it has starter and ending sounds that's resemble a diesel engine generator.
Yea they're loud and fucking annoying.
Texasfag so yeah. When I kept hermit crabs, I liked to throw old cicada sheds into the tank for them to eat
i moved to maryland like 14-15 years ago and remember when the brood x cicadas came out. it was pretty gnarly, tons of the fuckers everywhere we went each footstep crunched and killed dozens. hoping to move away before 2021 when they're next due
Yes, in the summer.
actually never seen them this many. I thought that's only in movies. actually the malaysian ones shells probably disintegrated quickly in the humid and hot underneath the forest canopy.
Flag
Yes but mostly in the east. They were a real sustenance when I lived there and the shells are creepy as fuck.
Every 17 years they rise from the Ground and swarm around for a week
That is a sure sign of a hot humid day here too
it happens once every 17 years apparently, at least for the east coast area where im at. its disgusting i never liked bugs but somehow as a kid it seemed more bearable. now that im a grown man i dont think i could stand having them fly into my car whenever i go for a drive or my house whenever i open the door
Yes, they end up as background noise, but they and frogs are loud as fuck once you remember they exist
I see. is there any explanation why?
Our toads signify the place is flooding and underwater while frogs means it's gonna rain, and usually accompanies the toads. I feel sad if I can't hear them croaking because it means the weather is hot and not gonna rain any sooner.
It's one species life cycle
this. pretty nuts how they stay down in the dirt for 17 years and come up for a week or month ,i forget, to fuck and buzz and die
when is the next cycle?
and this the typical sound of the toad during the monsoon bringing floods here. youtube.com
the next cycle is set for 2021 so im hoping to move the fuck away before then lol. the toads sound cool, mixed with the cicadas in the background thats a pretty relaxing summer vibe
