Depends 100% on the method. Getting shot by a firing squad would be awful. Getting shot by one guy with a shotgun pointed at my brainstem would be absolutely perfect, I would be dead before my brain even processed the sound, let alone the pain. However, hanging in civilized nations is also a good way to go. They calculate the exact drop height needed for your height and weight to snap your neck, killing you instantly.

The real question isn't "shot/hanged/beheaded", it's "first world execution or third world execution".

In Soviet Russia we shot criminals in the head from behind in one meter distance, often when there weren't waiting for that. They just had been takin walks from place to place in a prison for month till once got shot and become dead.

Exactly my point, depends entirely on how we define "proper". In a standardized system, death is near instantaneous. But in a less strict, more savage system, you get to dance the hangman's jig as you helplessly flail and choke to death.

Not true at all. I tried hanging myself last year and I was choking out for a good 30 seconds before the knot slipped loose. It's not as easy as it seems.

When carried out correctly, a hanging is quick and painless. The neck snaps when the body is dropped. Not a fan of guillotines or shooting, too much blood and mess. Seems disrespectful and barbaric, even if the person deserves it.

You're not supposed to hang by your throat, because then you crush your windpipe and slowly choke to death due to lack of air. But the knot should tighten as you hang on it, so your blood flow gets cut off. If you can't do a big drop that is.
