of every simple you see in japanese about 1 in 6 is kanji and not specifically in chinese grammar rules so it's not all that special
chinese never had a phenetic system until much later so these handful of characters the japanese do retain are about as bare as you can get with respect to their language evolving solely depended on and important logographic system
japanese can certainly be written in their syllabic system but it causes great ambiguity and especially the case with names and such
the numbers of dictionary terms certainly do not paint a good picture as the kanji in japanese are co opted by them FOR their language
this is beyond simple borrowing as chinese had to borrow japanese translations of europeans terms in kanji

without these imported words from Japan, China even cannot express their country name PRC (中華人民共和国)

What percentage of English words are Latin, French, or Greek?
I think, if we are to be more careful with the way we state things, that 100% of English words are English, and 100% of Japanese words are Japanese. Borrowing from other languages is perfectly normal and healthy, but once the borrowing is done, the word is no longer foreign.
