How fucked am I?

Just lost my phone with the authenticator app on it.... How do i log into anything without access to my 2fa? It isn't tied to a google account.

hope you saved your 16-character code somewhere before you had to scan your QR code. Otherwise you're pretty fucked.

Just call your phone it's probably somewhere in your house

you saved the code when you installed or JUST

>Not backing up his 2FA's

RIP

Next time back your shit up.

Alternatively, the same shit happened to me and most exchanges will work with you. I had to send them photo IDs and shit but eventually got through to my account.

Use authy if you're not going g to remember to backup your shot.

What code?

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. suck to be you my man.

you could contact each site individually explaining what happened and usually they can resolve it, might just take a few days/weeks.

You know, the code that pops up when you first set up authenticator that says THIS IS YOUR RECOVERY CODE.

That never existed. I downloaded the app and started scanning QR codes

rip

it's 424263

QUICK

NORMIE GTFO

Should have kept your code or at least use Authy spread across multiple devices.

the good news is, everyone else's crypto just got a little more valuable, so thanks.

Next time keep it on a Tablet that never leaves your house

RIP

Thats smart.
I lost nothing its all on my ledger. Just gonna make new accounts for exchanges.

fucking underrated

I wrote down my authenticator code somewhere but I also have all of these Google recovery codes that they provided me, a list of about a dozen codes. would those ones work or should I find my original authenticator code?

There's no backup code you fucking morons. God fucking damnit I hate this meme. Google authenticator has you use one-time use recovery codes to disable 2FA then re-enable it on a different device. Authy has you have a backup passphrase used to decrypt their backup from their server. THERE IS NO FUCKING "BACK UP CODE" YOU RETARDS.

the code is only present when you first set it up. You'll never see it again after.

ok so a backup code is a meme but you losing all your funds isn't?
what did you hold so we can verify

There definitely is a code.

If you lost it or never wrote it down you're fucked.
Your only chance is contacting the exchange and seeing if they can help verify that it's you via picture ID.

calm down pajeet

? I've recovered my 2fa after switching phones with my recovery codes on google authenticator

Invest in a polaroid camera next time
Thank me later

tfw people can just photoshop the id and steal your account

>hope you saved your 16-character code
Why do I have a 24 character code? Did I write down the wrong thing?

I clearly said recovery code not backup code, but for people who aren't pedantic Jow Forums virgins they're used interchangeably anyway.
>Google authenticator has you use one-time use recovery to disable 2FA then re-enable it on a different device.
So what happens if your phone takes a shit unexpectedly and you need to set up the app on a new phone? You need the RE-COV-ER-Y CODE. Read it slow and don't strain your brain cell too hard.

If you do that will the app be recovered with all the separate 2FAs for each site in it or do you have to re-input them manually?

How do you know about /biz but don't know to back up your 2fa

To be honest, time based 2FA vie Google Authenticator isn't that well explained on most exchanges, when they display the QR Code.
The "recovery code" and the QR Code that is displayed when you setup 2FA the first time is the exact same thing (the QR Code contains this code). It's a unique key that, together with the exact current time on your Smartphone, can generate one time passwords that are verified by the other side (exchange website).
This 2FA code (or just a screenshot of the QR code) you have to backup, and it can be used on multiple devices as well.

still need email and phone access

>there are people who don't print out their QR codes in addition to their backup codes
lol

I've never had to do it myself, but I would guess that when you recover/install on a new device, all your accounts should still be linked with your app.

Thanks for that explanation man I understand it now.

for google auth on coss.io i got a 26 digit code i assume there's different lengths

Literally the same thing in different form user

it's easier to scan the QR code with the Google 2FA app, though
