There were swarms of foreign tourists blocking the way to the cafeteria so I said to them very kindly "excuse me, let me pass" while weaving my way through them. But after coming through them I felt some people casting an irritated glance at me.. What did I do wrong? I thought " let me pass" would just work without causing any trouble but I can't think of other reasons why they got annoyed at me..
let me pass sounds weird, just say excuse me. But no, you didn't say anything wrong, you're probably reading too much into things if you're worried about something so trivial. Stop caring about what other people think of you.
Isaac Kelly
Coming through.
Ethan Mitchell
EYYYY IM WALKIN HEEEEA
Nolan Turner
It sounds too imperative. Even with the excuse me, just saying let me pass is like you're giving them an order.
It would have been better to say "Excuse me, please" or "Could you let me pass, please"
Connor Roberts
Yes, very rude
Owen Russell
In the Netherlands we almost never say please. It feels degrading.
Tyler Russell
We do say thank you.
Colton Jones
Oh that has a good point. Thx. I'll try to avoid using imperative forms as much as possible then. I had no idea imperative forms harbored that sort of connotation.. Why do schools in Korea not teach something so important like this..
Easton Rodriguez
that is nice to know
Connor Walker
Here we'd go:
"May I come through?" *pushes everyone aside* "sorry" *squeeze through* "excuse me" *pushes a glass over* "sorry"
Benjamin Wilson
Open the door > you're ordering someone to open the door Could you open the door > you're requesting someone to open the door Could you please open the door > you're politely requesting someone to open the door
Dylan Edwards
just shout ALLAHU AKBAR and they will all run away
Juan Cox
I started learning Arabic only a couple of weeks ago so idk how to pronounce it correctly. Too bad
Leo Gray
Thx for so informative reply. That helped a lot
Jaxson Peterson
uh-lah-hu ack-bur
Ian Davis
You could also try the Japanese way combined with the Dutch way. Shout baaaaanzaaaai, run in and push through the crowd.
Asher Campbell
It's ul luh hoo akbar
Jack Rodriguez
>luh I think lah is a better anglicized spelling. It's alLAH, not alluh.
Aaron Diaz
Unless they are bigger than me I just say ‘move’
Jaxson Howard
lol, I never heard someone say move here. But a lot of people say: Opzij = (step) aside Aan de kant = to the side Ik moet er door = I must go through Laat me er even door = let me pass through Mag ik er even door = May I pass through Pardon = pardon (me) (on an annoyed tone)
People do say "move" if they are annoyed sometimes. Or loop eens door = keep on walking
Samuel Hughes
je staat in de weg = you're standing in the way
Joshua Torres
>HOT COFFEE, HOOOOT COOOOOFFFFEEEEEE That always works for me
Lucas Cruz
you should have said "may i pass through here if you dont mind?" and then say "sorry" a few dozen times t. Canadian
Levi Jones
But that sounds too submissive to me.. Idk if it's just me who feels this way tho.. It sounds like talking to my boss or someone in a higher position..
Nicholas Young
Yes very rude, how dare you
Jackson Murphy
AY! I'M WALKIN' HEA', I'M WALKIN' HEA'!
Christopher Morris
He was making a joke about canadians and their over-politeness, Lee.
Hunter Cook
Didn't know it was a joke.. Since I haven't been on Jow Forums for long there are bunches of things I have yet to learn.. Or I'm just too dumb to follow the memes or jokes..
David Baker
>play tf2 see uganda knuckles >he do you know da wae >kick him pic related
Benjamin Nelson
wow .... i also have same exprience surprisingly when i take a KTX train i had to take of the train but there was one giant mid aged man who were blocking my way
so i said " excuse me ~ " but he just looked at me and didn't make a space for me so i just push that dickhead and on my way.
do really western think excuse me is rude ? wow,
Xavier White
i guess " excuse me " for western people would be heard like " don't fucking stand on my way like dumbass and MOVE !!! "
John Price
dont say let me pass just excuse me is fine its not courteous to tell them what to do, you're supposed to ask and they will do it by their own volition If they are chinese though dont bother, just barge through theres no way around it
