Not saying you're wrong at all, just speaking on a meta level but generally people land on the religion surrounding them because it's familiar. Not just on a surface level but deeper down as well. Ask non-religious Americans about Christian ideas, you'll find most align with a Protestant understanding of the Bible in Sola Scriptura and so on, they'd comfortably slot into a popular denomination in the US like a Baptist or Methodist church.
It's very hard for someone to genuinely unpack all their cultural influences and take on the religion of a very foreign culture without either becoming a radical or watering the religion down to their culture's standards, you see both of these in Western Muslims all the time.
