Irish dad, Somali mum and yeah most people thought I was arab growing up (until they saw my parents). I used to be muslim, not any more though as I'm not really sure if I can commit myself to it.

Can't really tell you desu. If I had to guess it's probably because Somalis have a long history with Islam and sometimes like to larp as arab themselves. Most other africans on the other hand (except ethiopians and a few others) historically practiced native pagan religions.
