The reason more people speak English in India than the US is because of the empire. Same reason Australia, Canada and many African countries speak it too such as Nigeria, South Africa and Ghana, adding up to more than English speakers than the US again. Just you and ameriweebs starting learn it from the simpsons and American TV doesn't make it the reason it is the most spread

The Anglosphere itself speaks English because of Britain, and much of our former colonial territory speaks English because of Britain.
