Yes, there are tensions between Latinos and indigenous. Not as bad as it used to be I understand. But I have seen it. A friend of mine is Tzutuhil and once the waitress in a pollo campero didn't want to serve him so pretended she didn't understand him. I don't have much trouble. I speak Quiche, Tzutuhil, and Kaqchiquel. But overall I have found the indigenous to be friendly except for an ass hole or two.
