Football is a skill based sport which demands a strong culture of kids playing and competition throughout adolescence and adulthood. Raw athleticism helps with all sports but there is still a lifetime of skills and muscle memory which doesn't simply transfer. If the USA had the same college football and professional football industry as it does for gridiron, then it would certainly have the infrastructure to produce champions, no doubt.
