What? CУ-57 is started in production, by the next year 12 will be built.

Imagina como seria se a FAB pudesse ter comprado os F-20 nos anos 80. Teríamos uma aeronave à altura do F-16 décadas atrás.
Aren't 5th Gen fighters overated anyway? I mean, it's not like any of them have been combat proven like the F-15 or Mig-29.

Are stealth and supermaneuverability worth the costs?

Tucano!

why are you guys even on nato

No, all next gen weapons are a dickwaving contest.
Some 50 years from now though when it becomes old and proven shit it will be feasible.

F-20 got cancelled because of F-16 fren. Plus tech wise the version that FAB has of the F-5 is superior than the F-20, although compared to the new 4++ ones of nowadays it ain't as good.

>this headlines
The Ministry of Defense just said that there will be no mass output like 100+ per year.

>Develop new weapon
>Haha the west is fucked now
>Russia can't actually afford it
>Buy a dozen and cancel the program
It's getting stale.

we're not.

also had pic related but it's expensive to maintain them

its not overated, thats why everyone got on the f-35 train

>Tucano!

Tbf it was more politics than the plane being good.

how the fuck is it more politics when other 4th generation fighters will just get shot down from BVR?

And so far the F-35 has been shown to be a flying turd plagued with constant cost overruns.
The F-20 was significantly cheaper compared to F-16 while having more or less the same capabilities. Considering how the USAF preferred F-4 over the F-5 on Vietnam, it is quite obvious they have something against smaller planes.

While the F-5M might have better avionics than F-20, the latter had more powerful engines and was more maneuverable than the F-5E it was meant to replace. The F-20 would have been a much better base for modernization IMO.

for what purpose? The US probably won't allow anyone invading you and you can't do anything against their military anyways. Would be smarter to focus on counter insurgency and coast patrol in my opinion

>They also performed in an air-to-air role: although we don’t know the ROE (Rules of Engagement) in place for the drills nor the exact role played by the F-22 Raptors that teamed up with the Lightning II throughout the exercise, the results achieved by the F-35, appear to be impressive, especially considering the 5th Gen. aircraft’s additional tasking during RF

Hmm. Makes you think.

Attached: Lynx HMS Sutherland.jpg (2048x1365, 465K)

lol even with exaggeration the kill-count is still fucking impressive, and the USAF officials arent idiots to purchase over 1k F-35 without getting it tested.

I'm talking more about the sales. You can see now countries like Italy halting their aquisitions because of how expensive it is and how incomplete the project is. Now saying that the F-35 is a total POS, but it's quite obvious they rushed into sales while not having fixed many problems, wether they are small or big.

F-5M was the earlier, FAB current ones is the F-5EM, with modern avionics, HMD and having the hability to operate BVR missiles. Went to a FAB event last year and they were letting people get into the cockpit and put the helmet, is was breddy cool.

But surely the F-20 would be the better option, but now it's too late and we're going Swedish anyway.

Pls buy.

Attached: file.png (1200x800, 1.39M)

i can understand why Italy did that, why the fuck would they order so many, where are they gonna even use them....

Why put customer countries' flags with a FAB livery? It's so out of place.

>where are they gonna even use them....

Same for countries like Belgium or Norway.

They're partners in the program and supposedly customers but only Portugal confirmed so far.

In 1994 with the zapatista rebellion the army realized they may have the troops, training and quite enough armored vehicles to crush it, but the air transport and support network was trash
This allowed the rebels to entrench themselves for a longer period of time
Similar thing happened with the drug war, lack of gunships, tracking vehicles, coin aircraft that did ok during 1994 were now dangerous and useless
Politicians see the military as a waste, but here is sadly needed

it is, the RCS will be the size of a paper airplane

But I think the number of armored vehicles they have is still limited

>Are stealth and supermaneuverability worth the costs?
Thats literally the differences between all generations of fighters really. Stealth requires penetrating BVR (beyond visual range) radar systems, if you can get a lock on your enemy, but their radar hasnt picked you up, you've won the battle before its even started (The F-22 Raptop was exceptional in regard to BVR because its has an AESA radar, the most powerful radar of its time capable of picking up any Russian fighter before the Raptor was in range)

Supermaneuverability is important for WVR (within visual range) fights, more commonly air to air combat where the targets can see each other and they're trying maneuver their noses to shoot each other down. It's important to note that WVR fights are becoming less and less prevalent as time goes on and more complications to BVR combat are emerging such as more electronic warfare jamming and pilot assistance.
