Hermannsdenkmal, Teutoburg Forest, Germany
>The monument commemorates the Cherusci war chief Arminius (in German, Hermann) and the Battle of the Teutoburg Forest in which the Germanic warriors under Arminius defeated three Roman legions under Varus in 9 AD.
>At the time it was built, the location of the statue was believed to have been very near the actual site of the battle, though it is now considered to be more likely that the battle actually took place near Kalkriese, a considerable distance to north west of the monument.
Rio
>The monument rises a total of 53.44 m. The statue accounts for 24.82 m (including the sword). Pedestal and base of the statue make up the difference.
>The sword has a length of 7 meters and weighs ca. 550 kg.
>The statue was made from around 200 copper plates riveted together and supported by an iron frame. The copper weighs an estimated 11.8 metric tons.

Why we don't built anymore giant statues in the west ?
>Average finnish "white" man
>Pachinko & Slot
I've wondered that as well. I imagine the answer is because it's so expensive you have to sort of be kinda dictatorial to get the money for it if it's built by a state. If it's privately built, cost is probably even more of a factor. Could also be more expensive here because we have higher standards. I've heard for instance that this statue in Russia was built with cheap-as-shit concrete, worse than the kind you could get away with using in a first world nation.
Height of copper statue (to torch): 151 feet 1 inch (46 meters)
From ground level to torch: 305 feet 1 inch (93 meters)
India is going to build the world’s tallest statue in Gujarat.
Looks cool, but I think the money could be used somewhere better.
I wonder what we should built so without going full reactionary.
No a political leader obviously. Modern art statues are often disgusting, so I don't know.
an embodiment of the nation as a person is timeless and always an option. historical figures are great too. war memorials are a good option aswell there is still enough time to build something big for the 100 years ww2 anniversary.
