I think modern Korea could learn from history. Korea used to accept migrants from manchu and japan as long as they ditch their own culture and become a real Korean. It works in The Caribbean and Island territories (e.g Hawaii) because there isn't a high immigration rate, and so people get to know each other.
In Big cities it fails, because there are huge pockets of minority areas that new immigrants can move into without having to assimilate. Also, regardless of whether you're an immigrant or a native, you live separate lives from the people around you due to the size and soullessness of the city.

Memes aside: It Depends on how you define "works". Here we import wealthy immigrants only and so they dont bring much crime (crime and poverty correlate) but they also dont integrate and they are displacing real canadians (real = your parents were born here at minimum). So we end up with different neighbourhoods of pakistanis and indians (dots not feathers) and koreans and the chinese and so on. In some cases theres so many that they create a whole town, for instance richmond in BC is all chinese, South surrey is all indians, there's some town near scarborough thats all pakis ... on and on. Personally I dont have a problem with these people other than generally I notice: The indians stink like shit both the men and the women, the chinese are obsessed with money, koreans are cool and tend to become accountants. The economy improves mid-long term because we have more people who can afford not to be on public services but the big downsides are the real canadians being priced out and the immigrants thinking their canadians because they arrived off the boat three years ago, that and no cultural identity anymore. Being canadian is like saying you have two ears and a nose. I envy the euros and their culture and history.
