I pick up and wait until the other party says something.

Stay quiet and wait for the other person to state their business. They were the ones who called me.

pronto?

I usually do this if it's an unknown number

if it's someone I know then "hello" is the go-to response

,,Halo'' when I'm dealing with an unknown number/someone I should respect.
A random noise/regular greeting when I'm dealing with my buddies.
I usually don't pick up from unknown numbers unless I expect one to call me though.

Bueno?
Good?

The most polite way in private situations:
>"Surname" hallo/grüß Gott

Less formal:
>Hallo/Grüß Gott

If you know the caller:
Hallo/Servus/Griaß di/Ja?

When you're in a hurry:
>Ja?

In business situations:
>Company name, mein Name ist "surname", was kann ich für Sie tun?/grüß Gott!
