To a degree, I guess so. I've seen some people my age talk about so-called "entry level anime", like Re:0, Boku Dake, Fate Zero, and FMA, to name a few.
Some people may scoff at somebody talking about anime in public, but it's certainly not as big of as a taboo as it used to be.
Still, you're way more likely to hear Marvel movie talk, than anime. It's not nearly as big.

Italy hosts the largest con in Europe (Lucca Comics&Games). 70s giant robots and shows like Dragon ball, Tiger man, Ken the warrior etc are a staple for anyone born between the 60s and 90s. It's as acceptable as any hobby, really. Once every couple years we get a hilariously misinformed article on national newspapers but mostly nobody cares
