Paris doesn't have factories (they smell bad, sometimes explode, and we're too lazy to do factory work anyway) and the murder rate is very low - check it.

Still, it’s the city in France which comes the closest to Detroit because there is no factories in France anymore, they are all in Eastern Europe and China.
Roubaix is a suburb of Lille, in that case Tremblay en Afrique is definitely worst than Roubaix, and Lille definitely smells better than P*ris, Lille definitely has less niggers than P*ris and Lille definitely has less Criminality than P*ris even if Lille is not a great city at all from what I heard.

I'm not too concerned about possibly getting a parcel stolen in my mailbox or getting rob of the perhaps 30 euros in have in cash on my person every ten years. And even that never happened to me.
Getting shot at on the contrary, now that would be scary.
But the murder rate has been divided by 175 since the Ancien Régime, and is very low now.

We had to resort to immigration. France became populous well before the other European countries (in the 18th century it was the most populous country in Europe, before Russia, and the 4th in the world, only behind China, India, and Japan).
The the birth rates started to decline, again well before other countries. So Germany, Russia and the UK (who started their boom at that time) got before us.
This proved disastrous in the world wars, which further worsened our population problem.

So as far back as 1900 (120 years ago...) it was either immigration or complete economic disaster and military oppression.
Today it's gotten much better, thank you, but still, until computers and robots can do the vast majority of the jobs needed in a country, and with only a minor effort to design/build/maintain them, we still need immigration.
I don't know how we could have got the hospitals running without all those doctors we stole from Vietnam, Egypt, and lately Iraq and Syria... I think perhaps 1/4 of the personnel there is an immigrant or 2nd/3rd generation one.
