Yep, I was 14 years old, during one of my weekly highschool orientations. The teacher giving the presentation came in, very excited and said "this morning a plane crashed into one fo the world trade towers! And the [x] minutes later, another one!"
He didn't say it was on purpose and I was so confused as to how 2 pilots could be so bad at flying the plane. I thought "did they forget to turn on the blinker light? but its broad daylight!" Later on I discovered it was on purpose. Kids were claiming that surely, our city would be next (Detroit suburbs, "we make the tanks!"). I thought it was a big mystery who did it.
Then I found out it was Osama bin Whocares and I was disappointed the mystery was already over. We all got to watch TV for the rest of the day. Later on we all stood up in Parenting Class and said the Pledge of Allegiance for the first time since elementary school, since we were reminiscing about how we never get to say it anymore
