Did they give you investment tips to make your own choices or flat out which coins to put your money in?

I got shilled VEN and ICX on reddit back in December and enjoyed the moon mission to ath until it came crashing down in February. Meanwhile all I got from Jow Forums was link and REQ, both absolute shitcoins

I've never trusted Jow Forums so neither.

I don't trust Jow Forums. I use it for entertainment 99% of the time and 1% for finding about new projects before the normies and buying only after DMOR.
Jow Forums made me lots of money because I've been here long enough to filter the bullshit and find the diamonds.

I'll rephrase the question since I've been on Jow Forums boards since 2007ish.

Trusting Jow Forums on the macro has gotten me here, which is incredible as I'm at a level of wealth my family has never achieved. But the past 14 years of /b then /pol then /x then /biz were a psychological, informational, and mental battleground. Lots of short term stressors and thoughts and ideas which alienate one from the hive mind general population.
Learned a lot of skills though, and like I said, life is on another level.

How do you independently figure out which coins are good or not? Basically, how do I do research on a coin? What do I look for?

Def helped. It's 99 pct noise here—maybe more—but just DYOR and you'll be fine. Got various free airdrops from here and a couple have been worth something or pushed me in a direction that I otherwise wouldn't have gone (got 100 free ELLA and mined another couple thousand, was worth $7K at peak).

You have to learn to understand the difference between biz pajeet shills and biz gem shills.

Both. When I first got into crypto last September I was 75% in on Ripple. I was fully confident in my pick until I came across a random post talking about how Link was the Ripple killer. I didn't have any experience of the degree of disinfo in this space yet, so I took it seriously, sold a quarter of my XRP and bought LINK. I had been confident about XRP but was nervous about LINK and the more reading I did, the more arrows pointed back to biz. Once I arrived here I realized I'd been memed and dumped my stinkies at 45 cents, understanding that I should never trust anything biz said ever. But learning that biz was not to be trusted helped me a lot. I can trust biz to be untrustworthy and that consistency has helped me learn a lot about good projects here without being taken in by the hype.

I have benefitted from biz in general, but I ignore all memers like linkies or holoers.

I got completely burned by ETP, NEBL and some other garbage I no longer remember.

But I could have held by XVG.

They literally shill to death every fucking coin. Check the BCN leddit, they are still "optimistic" on Bytecoin. Their fake positivity and echo-chamber is nauseous. At least here you can read both sides of the discussion.
