This is very sad that people still stick to these stereotypes from the 1980s. No country, maybe except for China, has made such a big progress for the last 30 years. In 1989 Poland had GDP per capita lower than Peru and almost equal to Papua New Guinea.
It is changing very rapidly. Shitloads of airports now offer flights to Gdansk, Krakow and Wroclaw, like half the tours my university organizes go to Poland now.
It also means our labour market is getting fucked since Poles don’t want to work here anymore. Not even as welders.

To this day lots of "liberal" Poles make fun and insults the people of villages as dumb stupid and trashy, which I found totally absurd as from my experience villagers are often more civilized than burghers.

Every second westerner I met here in Slovenia says something in the lines of: "oh, I expected something like Serbia or Russia, but it looks like Austria". Like come on, it's a compliment, but a compliment that stems from ignorance, EE is not like africa, and it's not the 80' anymore (though we never really had that bad as other Eastern Eu countries)
That's a projection. People think like that not because they think they are superior, but their perspective is deteriorated by the amount of eastern europeans moving to their countries. Natives of western europe are often very negative/critical about their home countries and are seeing poverty and such and most immigrants they had were from a true 3rd world but when the eastern europeans swarmed their countries the westies compared them to 3rd worlders and thought if they come to this bad country then their country must really be a shitholes without roads and with crippling depression. And some parts of eastern europe actually do look like that, but it's minority even in the poorest countries like ukraine or moldova.
Sounds like you never left that town of yours for a metropolitan city longer than a month if these things truly contribute to your happiness instead of serving as a mere projection from the things you're missing out on
