It's actually been quite safe since the late 90's or so. Safer than most of our cities, even those of far lesser size.

in the USA, specially NYC I find, only trashy people use public transportation, as opposed to Europe where it's more commonly used by "regular" people.

Also, NYC public transportation is objectively shitty. It's always crowded, smells bad and the trains are old most of the time and don't seem well kept.

It constantly breaks down, is never on time, is dirty and occasionally has a smelly homeless person stinking an entire car up. They will for an example say they are coming every 6 minutes. Meanwhile I'll be be like a 20 minute wait and then leading to the next one being twoi ites behind. The first train ends up horribly over crowded. They'll break down at station causing the platform to be crowded and no one knows how to get to work and they won't give you info. Sometimes they'll randomly shut down a line on a weekend with the only notice being a small poster with small text and confusing details. The stations also smells like piss and is full of vagrants. All of this and they keep raising rates. People are always late to work because of them. Sometime people are stuck in between stations for 20 minutes or hours.

t.Live in BK, work in Manhattan and occasionally have to go to the Bronx or Queens. I also know people who consult with them and they are a terrible client. They are ultra picky blowing money but their O&M personal couldn't maintain an erection is they we're a 14 year old boy.

It's crowded, expensive (sales tax, rent, food, income tax is insane), it's dirty, smells like piss and garbage in the summer, dog shit is all over (especiallyin immigrant neighborhoods), most immigrants are retarded third world shits, the roads are terrible, illegals get benefits but don't pay taxes, the mass transit sucks, the white people are mostly ignorant ivory tower liberals who think they know better than everyone else, the politicians are corrupt, the police won't show up for 12 hours if someone isn't injured, etc.

They will use this line to justify literally anything that might happen in their garbage dump. They also genuinely believe that their pizza, which they take so much pride in, is something only obtainable in New York. All major metropolitan areas in North America have dozens of respectable pizzerias capable of making thin crust pizza identical to what you can find in New York. It's not a very complex dish. If you try to explain this to them, mentally ill New Yorker rats will unironically argue that their special polluted fucking tap water imparts a unique taste on the dough of their pizza. It's full of poseurs. Back in the 70s when it was actually a dangerous and dark place, tons of great artists came out of it. After it got cleaned up, however, it became totally soulless, yet it still attacks talentless hacks like a moth to a flame because it has this legendary reputation of being a haven for creatives. Like Paris, but worse.

Upstate New York is very nice.

Because they don't seem to be able to express an opinion without belittling others who are different than themselves, so we tend to tune them out. Ends up being...insular. Sort of a 300 square mile echo chamber, if you will.

New York sucks if you're a wage cuck spending 3 weeks worth of paychecks on rent and utilities or an illegal alien living 30 to an apartment in shithole, Queens and standing on a street corner every day at 7 am.

But it's the best place in the world if you make $100K+.There's a reason why it's the financial capital of the world. And also I think New York and San Fran are expensive because they're the only cities in America where it's common to get by without a car, and that ammenity raises the price.

Yeah you can live in many other cities without one, but it's not as easy.

If more of our cities were transit or pedestrian-focused, I think the hot commodity aspect would come off NYC and SF and bring the price down a bit.
