gonna slaughter 2 tomorrow personally , grill some and give the rest to relatives.

Each cow has 7 divisions. Each div is equivalent to one sheep, about RM650 today. People usually buy 1 or 3 divisions for Eid. Some moneyed people will buy a whole cow.

None of the meat goes to waste. A portion is compulsory to be given to the poor. It gives city slickers and children an eye opener to see where meat comes from so that they appreciate it more. I killed my first animal during Eid. Makes me grateful for food on the table and treat meat animals with respect.

How's Eid in France, how does it compare to your home

I have done it in both tunisia and france and it's really similar. Only difference in tunisia you can do it freely, in France the whole thing is illegal. (killing an animal in your garden)

my asian friends call eid 'paki-christmas' how accurate is this? u get presents?

People in my country usually give kids 'Eidi' which is some money, although religiously speaking you don't give presents and such to each other.

I went out and visited my parental side of the family. Seen a lot of distant family members that I haven't seen in forever. It was great. I came back home and took a nap. Now I will visit my maternal side of the family :D


Do you have an Eid tradition that is not common in your country but your family does?

My uncle does this game every Eid where he puts a lot of money in a penny bank. And everyone writes on a paper a guess of how much money is there. The one who gets the closest number to the actual amount of money in the penny bank gets all of the money.
