my mom is romanian and she told me this one
She lived in a small village, and some gypsies from a nearby village came over to try to steal shit. a few of them came across my mom, who was walking home from her friend's house and tried to rape her. she got away somehow and told her dad (my grandad) all about it. he was so damn pissed he went on an all out manhunt for those fuckers before they left the village and somehow found them all being lazy fucks on the side of the road. so he took one of the copper pipes (as well as some rocks) and beat the shit out of all 3 of them, he even knocked one out and left him on the side of the road. mind you, this was not in the city centre, but in the outskirts of the city. he got away with it scot-free because no one knew he was the one who fucked them up
The rest of the encounters my mom had with them have not been any more than them begging/pickpocketing, etc

They're as bad as everyone has probably been telling you. I haven't personally had negative close encounters with gypsies but I've seen the shit they do and the way they live. Worst of all is that they managed to ruin our reputation abroad and somehow we get all the blame, while the west forgets that we're neither gypsies nor satisfied with how things are going.
