dogs have fought wars with us, they've hunted with us, they've solved crime with detectives and police, they've guarded us, all of which is far more than I can say of killing pests

You would have a point if it were common in Italy, but it wasn't. Cat burning was common in France and Belgium, but not Italy.

The plague spread quickly because Europeans didn't have the immunity to the presumably-Chinese origin disease, much like Native Americans had no chance in hell against Spanish and English settlers for the same reason. We didn't need rats to spread pox and disease to Native Americans -- just contact through trade was enough, even a blanket.

Yeah sure rats living on ships and cats killing those rats on ships would have helped the Genoese/Venetian/whatever merchants avoid ruining Europe, but cats weren't kept as pets until the 1600s (long after the waves of plague ended). Cat utility is more of a "what if" than a reality

I actually agree. I like dogs, and they make great loyal companions but the insufferable animal rights vegan types take it to a degenerate level.

I know one that has an adopted dog that compulsively bites people, even children. She refuses to put it on a leash or even just keep it in her house. She got herself kicked out of 2 different rentals because her dog bit the landlord and the landlords daughter.
