The world has been anglo, and to a lesser extent, euro-dominated for the last few centuries. It shouldn't be surprising that asian women still see being white as the ultimate status symbol. It's not about the money, it's really about being seen as above your fellow singaporeans or asians because you have a white boyfriend or husband. I've had a candid conversation with a female friend who dated a jobless french guy and she admitted that, yes, it felt good walking around with a white boyfriend. Less honest girls would just say shit like oh it's because white guys are more cultured and open minded. But in the end, it really boils down to status. And just to be clear, I meant status in the socioeconomic, usually with more emphasis on the "socio" if we're talking about singaporean women.

There are probably more factors to consider too, but I believe status to be the main one.
