There is a lot of beauty in Russia, but except for the settlements of imperial Russia most of their territory is covered with cities that was populated in the 20th century.
Even a city like Saint Petersburg looks somewhat cheap because you can tell it was built in haste in the 19th century for the most part so the architecture does not reflect a 'natural' building phase, just like the commie blocks of the 20th century shows a quick expansion.
