To be honest when I think of the real meaning of Saudade I think of Portugal. That is not meant to be an insult either!

Saudade is Portuguese as in language, not just country.

Most of bossa nova's themes are about saudade, and is frankly a good eye into how Brazil handles sadness versus Portugal. Brazil is seen as a happy-go-lucky country, but it's pretty much as depressed as Portugal, they just show it in very different ways.

I guess it is more obvious in Portugal, but the meaning of Saudade is all over the place and can be applied to a lot of feelings, hence the meme-y value it reaches sometimes.

"Chega de Saudade", meaning "enough of Saudade" would also work for Brazil as a way of distancing from Portugal, I guess.

But then again, they have feel-good Bossa as well. "O Pato" is a lot of fun.
