>Gargoyle/Gargouille
>A French legend that sprang up around the name of St. Romanus (French: Romain; fl. c.631 – 641 AD), the former chancellor of the Merovingian king Clotaire II who was made bishop of Rouen, relates how he delivered the country around Rouen from a monster called Gargouille or Goji.[6][7] La Gargouille is said to have been the typical dragon with bat-like wings, a long neck, and the ability to breathe fire from its mouth. Multiple versions of the story are given, either that St. Romanus subdued the creature with a crucifix, or he captured the creature with the help of the only volunteer, a condemned man. In each, the monster is led back to Rouen and burned, but its head and neck would not burn due to being tempered by its own fire breath. The head was then mounted on the walls of the newly built church to scare off evil spirits, and used for protection.[8] In commemoration of St. Romain, the Archbishops of Rouen were granted the right to set a prisoner free on the day that the reliquary of the saint was carried in procession (see details at Rouen).[9][10]

To scare children so they don't wander off into the woods and get lost or fuck around near bodies of water and drown.

They are just innocent qt not witches.

There is some truth to the tales though. Some are exagarrated, but there was certainly a lot of strange things happening around in the forests up here in Norway. People used to bury the dead on their farms, if the farm had a lot of graves it showed that it was a family farm with a strong foundation. Around these farms there weren't unusal to come across "vardöger" or foresightings, it was like spirits warning you of either danger or telling about something that was going to happen. If a husband got lost at sea, his wife could hear him knocking on the door as he were coming back, but no one was there.

There was also these people who lived in the forest, that had been shunned from their community, people that had leprosy with deformed faces, it was common they lived in these peathuts, and they used to scare people away if they came too close. Not to mention the dwarfs, small people who lived together as some kinds of druids.

>Witches doesn't exists.
because we burned them all

this, we burnt all their evil cats and they summoned the black plague, but we won that war vs the armies of the devil.

most condemned witches were older women that were occupying property without really using it and it was a way to free up property for younger people in Europe
burn the boomer

They didn't burn my great grandmother, she read tarot and could tell the future and shit. She lived in this house were everything was red, red curtains, red lamps, red walls. Oh she loved red for some reason.

Why European believed Witch exits?

The christians preached about spirits and souls, but when they saw proof of the supernatural they freaked out for some reason.

see

Literally a german/american exclusive thing.

Witches are pagan thing. Pagans and in particular continental germanic pagans were super into chastity and the penatly for fornication was death for both the man and the woman. Now, nobody gave a fuck if those were some peasants, but when chieftain’s son was found out fucking some peasant girl there was a problem. The solution was to call the girl a witch that ethralled the poor innocent guy with her evil magic and burn her while he gets to walk away scot-free (note that this system is still alive in New Guinea and some parts of Africa). Now early church tried to get rid off that becaue no magic is real, only God can do miracles, but due to continuous populatity of this ancient custom and decraesing quality of priests they eventually caved in and went with the flow.

Witchburning is a pagan tradition. The Catholic Church banned witch burning until the Protestants came.
