Why do Europeans smoke so much?

Why do Europeans smoke so much?

Because american tobaco companies spend an enormous amount on advertising and lawsuits against anti-smoking laws.

>The American boogeyman is out to get me

He's not wrong you know?

It’s very rapidly changing. In terms of anti-smoking laws Europe is simply 10 years behind the US but in the UK for example you cannot even smoke on some streets and a pack of cigarettes is $18.

In what sense.

BAE and Phillip Morris are the tobacco industry.

Because smoking isn't seen as something evil and stupid.

Weird that we gutted our own industry but your governments still haven't

Are smoking ads still allowed in Finland? Wtf

Arent people taught about the known risks associated with smoking in some kind of health class?

It’s mainly your industry that hasnt been gutted over here, and like I said it’s happening.
Scandis were never big smokers, UK is leading in all the anti-smoking laws and France for example the biggest chimney of them all also has the most expensive cigarettes on the continent now. Probably only Eastern-Europe will remain as it is.

We are, we just don't care. In Europe smoking is still a cool kids thing. Meanwhile in America the cool kids don't smoke and think that smoking is very bad.

>It’s mainly your industry that hasnt been gutted over here
That's what I mean. You'd think there would've been enough resistance in the US to delay restricting tobacco, and more of a push from countries that don't have a tobacco industry. It's good that things are changing though.

>Meanwhile in America the cool kids don't smoke and think that smoking is very bad.
Not really. They just moved on to weed.

This.

Yeah it was very strange to see loads of attractive women smoking in Budapest, that's really not a common sight here. It's doubly strange because eastern euros seem to have an obsession with health, as in 'drink this gross drink because it's healthy' and stuff like that. Wonder how smoking avoided that stigma

>people my age treat me like an addict if i get a beer at a restaurant
>these same people then go home and get blazed every day

That's the other thing. Americans smoke weed clean.

>In Europe
You’d be surprised to find out attitudes are rapidly changing
Less teens pick up smoking every few years. I just got back to my university and had to walk like 10 meters away from the entrance before we were allowed to smoke.
Smoking overal is just not worth it I suppose. I am certain the US did some cost-analysis before introducing all their anti-smoking laws.
The industry also isn’t that big. Factories are heavily automated and only have a handful of employees with the tobacco being an import product

That was very strange to see in the US, everyone in my group of English people got an alcoholic drink with dinner and it looked like the waitress couldn't believe her eyes. What's up with that

No. He's just one of those stupid inbreeds from the eastern parts of the country.

This. It is still a cool thing here. I‘v been in Poland last week and cigarettes are still cheap there, other then in Western Europe where they are expensive as shit. But I think in 10 years smoking ain’t a thing anymore in whole Europe.

Dude, we don't give up a fuck about health. Look up some statistics.

Teens unironically stopped smoking on massive scales. It’s becoming less and less something someone has to do in order to qualify as cool

>Give up
*Care

Beer is seen as something you drink only to get plastered. Remember back then people just drank shitty macro brews. Sure you could have it at bbqs and casual food but it wouldn't pair well with more refined food.

Only older people and those in the Bible belt will usually be perplexed by drinking a nice beer for dinner.

people here tend to be very puritan in public. despite all of the apparent teetotalers, liquor stores usually do very well and bars get plenty of patrons

I‘m a boomer who is still smoking. I want to stop that because younger people look at you as you were some kind of retard.

This unironically was at a bbq place in Texas (still a restaurant though) and it was Sam Adams. Maybe it's just the culture there as you say

The public is exactly where you should be drinking, private drinking here is the weird one

Millennials view drinking as distasteful or unfashionable, moreso than their parents or even grandparents.

The fuck? Where do you live?

Cucked people

>tfw dad and his friends laughed at me for making a weird face after a shot of pálinka

Just Google it, you'll find a number of articles with polls, declining sales statistics, and opinion pieces. There's always going to be drinkers but it isn't in style right now.

>cucked!!!
Zoomers are going to be better people than millenials over here. Their attitudes towards drugs, alcohol and tobacco are a thousand times healthier than the millenial generation which is one of Europe’s most hedonistic ones

Well I don't know about that. Here in Los Angeles there's a ton of bars that always have people. Young too.

Perhaps people are just drinking more expensive beers/liquor.

Of course Islam has strict laws on drugs and alcohol. Zoomer culture is frawned upon in Hungary by older generations. You aren't viewed as a man of you aren't a raging alcoholic.

>You aren't viewed as a man of you aren't a raging alcoholic.
Zoomers don’t care about boomer approval and islam has nothing to do with it. The times of being a youth meaning you bingedrink and chainsmoke are just over. They still drink and they still smoke, just more moderation

Don't know why and i still doesn't understand the appeal to smoke.

I fucking hate smokers and i am happy they are getting raped by massive taxe on cigarette.

>This is your brain on America

Excellent. People turn more and more into efficient durable-lung nodes of some kind of insect-like genderless cuck-network, all connected by mobile devices, fueld by vegan food and non-alcoholic beverage.

Smoking is at an all time low in Norway if I'm not mistaken. Only the boomers still do it.

Most people here use pic related, or don't use nicotine at all.

I guess it feels nice? I smoke cigars once in a while with some buddies but those are more like a ritual.

I don't understand the appeal either. Especially for cheap ones.

i don't get how this stuff works. you put it on your gums and then what? it tastes good and thats it?

>just fuck my gums up senpai

you get your nicotine fix
that's kinda the point of tobacco, not actual smoking

Nicotine. Smoking is shit though, switched to snus a long time ago.

Honestly, there's actually no scientific evidence that it's unhealthy for your gums. It contains salt, which is the only thing that can irritate your gums, but smoking and drinking coffee is actually worse for your mouth than snus is.

smoking ads are all over the place in Germany. Massive billboards etc

It's rather a social event here. You go out with the smokers, discuss how is the day and finish.
