Its because Americans don't have any form of a unifying culture. Its inherently depressing but the ultimate truth is that Americans aren't unified, in anything. Maybe you can find some corn fed, square jaw hick from the Appalachians who will claim that he loves the US but he really just hates black people and uses the excuse as an affront. It's a simple solution for simple people but America is a simple nation so it works
