Overall that should really be no problem. You are allowed to transport pretty much what ever you want in your backpack.
For example folding knifes above some length that lock in position and can be opend with one hand are not allowed to carry - on YOU. As long as you carry them in your backback and you are 18+ there is no problem. You can also easily buy them and own them. (not like in the UK) Just don't carry them so you can easily reach them. Same for guns, of course you can carry them around if you have a license, but you have to keep them (unloaded) in a backpack or what ever, not in a holster.
(not exactly sure how crossing the border with such stuff works, tho)

Our marechaussee is doing checks here at the border almost everyday. They randomly pick a vehicle and turn it inside out.

Did your country ever by it's LMAO Dude weed store on the German border? I remember the idea was floated to keep them from clogging up your roads driving to Amsterdam for marijuana.

Of course there's coffeeshops in all border towns for Germans I think. However in the southern province of Limburg they are off-limits to foreigners because drug tourism got out of hand there due to German, Belgian and French people coming there and pissing/puking everywhere.

Actually the amounts of coffeeshops as we call them have gone down by 50% since it's peak in 1997. The plan on the German border was to introduce a so called 'McJoint drive through' which actually is completely illegal since by Dutch law the transportation of drugs is always prohibited.

Anyway our border is sparsely populated so there's only like 5-6 towns there with a coffeeshop I think and Germans seem to prefer driving another 50km and visit a nearby city to spend a day there before bringing their stash home with them.
