Regardless the advantages of manual in terms of power etc are much more visible in weaker engines (which Europoors tend to have). For example a 1L automatic car will be completely undrivable while with a manual you can just rev it up much higher to gain speed quicker. Now when you have a 2.5l BMW it will no longer matter of course and automatic makes you go from 0-100 even quicker than manual these days.

I guess you're not used to it, but you're not supposed to brake yourself unless it absolutely requires you to do it. Just go into a lower gear and let the motor do the work, it's better for your brakes as well.
