Countries where this piece is called "horse" are bros
Countries where this piece is called "knight" are pompous assholes
Is it true?

btw here it's called "cavalo" = horse
what about countries where it's called "jumper"?
we have our Кoнь. Brazil's bro now
Wtf i love brasil now
Paard (Horse) here.
It's a hussar
in finnish it's ratsu which can be translated as either
It's called cavalier here, knight
booooo
these ones are the worse I guess
fucking frog at it again.
>ok what do we name this?
>well what does it look like?
>brazil: a horse!
>ok it's a horse
>but what does it do?
>germany: it jumps, so let's call it a jumper
>ok it's a jumper
>France: REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE IT'S A KNIGHT FOR SOME UNKNOWN REASON
It's a knight here
(((Knight))).
dzi here, a horse *dabs*
It's called a horse here though
It's called that way in French and English because it represents armored cavalry, ie, a knight. It's not rocket science, jumper is probably the most retarded name of all 3.
it's knight
we call the chess piece knight
the equivalent in Shogi or Japanese chess is called Keima or Cinnamon Horse
Cinnamon used to be very valuable back then
Yes.
>calling pony horse or knight
I think the worst countries are those that call the queen 'general'.
/Jumper/ desu
It's called the leaper here.
cavalier comes from caballus which meant horse, so...
Yes, it means horse rider; knight. I don't understand where you're getting at.
caballo and caballero are two different words with the same root but caballero is the piece and caballo is not
over here, it's a caballo, horse in english
he gave you a chance not to sound retarded, but you missed it.
The worst countries are those who call the bishop a "fool". WTF?
Genuinely don't understand your point. I don't mind sounding retarded, but I doubt there's any actual substance behind your post or his. Cavalier might be derived from a Latin root meaning "horse", but it means "knight". That's all there is to it.
I made you write this, Frenchie, that's good enough.
>worst
explain
They're just the worst. What is there to explain?
>Bishop
You mean "Walker"
I think it's only called "fool" in French. It apparently comes from the "foule" root which means "elephant" - fîl (فیل) in Old Persian, and as we know, Persians and Indo-Iranians were the first ones to play chess. The resemblance with the Old French "fol"(fool in English) led to it being called "fou".
you mean "Fool"
Runner more like
rider
shooter
Geesus i guess you call the rook "liner" and the pawn "stepper"
makes total sense
>shooter
cool.
Here some people call him Jumper
yes.
based.
No.
Pawn is peasant and rook is tower.
rook is tower, pawn is farmer
'ratsu', basically means steed
Pawn - pion(pawn)
Knight - cavalier(knight) or cheval(horse)
Bishop - fou(fool)
Rook - Tour(tower)
Queen - reine(queen) or dame(lady)
King - roi(king)
Skoczek meaning Jumper.
Any country that calls it the Queen is fucking retarded. How on earth did you even came up with the idea that the most powerful chess figure could be called "the Queen".
In Polish it's hetman.
Goniec meaning Messenger.
the queen is the most power figure in court
No it's not, especially not on the battlefield.
think of the queen as the diplomatic arm of a kingdom
It's at (horse). Bishop is fil (elephant), rook is kale (castle) and queen is vezir (vizier).
PAARD
A
A
R
D
lame
cool
Horse is sadly already used by Game of the Goose players and jumper can make some people thinking it's a kangaroo.
we call bishop = camel, rook = elephant, knight = horse, queen = vizier
We always called it an L-pony.
pretty weak excuse when chess was around longer than game of the goose and knowledge of kangaroos.
Based
Wtf? No, it's called Cavalier
אתה קורא לכלי הזה אביר או פרש?
We call it Runner
Pawn - Bonde (farmer)
Knight - Springer (leaper/jumper). Patzers call it hest (horse) cause they keep mixing up the runner and the jumper.
Bishop - Lǿper (runner)
Rook - Tårn (tower)
Queen - Dronning (queen)
King - Konge (king)
Pawn - Sotilas (soldier)
Knight - Ratsu (mount/steed)
Bishop - Lähetti (courier)
Rook - Torni (tower)
Queen - Kuningatar (queen)
King - Kuningas (king)
Pawn - Ragli (infantry)
Knight - Parash (Cavalier/Horse rider)
Bishop - Ratz (runner)
Rook - Tzari'akh (steeple)
Queen - Malka (queen)
King - Melekh (king)
פרש, שמשמעו אביר
Absolutely right.
literally the =
We call it alfil apparently means "the elephant" in arab
פרש זה מישהו שרוכב על סוס, בין אם הוא חייל עם שריון או לא
Pawn - Pion or colloquially Pionek (which apparently comes from French - I always thought it's from Polish word for "vertical")
Knight - Skoczek - jumper
Bishop - Goniec - messenger
Rook - Wieża - tower
Queen - Hetman - field marshal in XVII century Poland
King - Król - king
Also I like to think the pawn transforms into a queen when reaching the other side of the board as a reward of taking a weak unit to the other side of the field and him transforming it's because he gained knowledge from the inside of the enemy camp
Pawn - Peão (peon)
Knight - Cavalo (horse)
Bishop - Bispo (bishop)
Rook - Torre (tower)
Queen - Rainha (queen)
King - Rei (king)
The pawn transforms into whatever you'd like (usually a queen would trump both a bishop and a rook, but I guess there could be situations where a horse can do other stuff).
God, I hate women.
Fuck off frognigger
bet you unironically call jumper, snownigger
Pawn = bidak
Knight = kuda(horse)
Bishop = menteri (ministry)
Rook = benteng
Queen = ratu
King = raja
nigger
cavalier isn't knight but mounted warrior
chevalier is knight
>cavalier isn't knight but mounted warrior
What do you think a knight is?
>chevalier is knight
wrong. you can upgrade the knight to a chevalier and then to a paladin.
I'm surprised you don't call it Flugpferd or some similar shit.
why the heck would i do this?
Because that's what you germans do. Slap 2 simple words together for something more specific. Your plan is literally "flying thing" and turtle is "toad with shield".
>play Teutons
>upgrade Paladin
>no husbandry upgrade available
G*rms
yeah, it's super practical.
what do you need paladin for when you have teuton knights in rams?
Same, minus the meme spelling.
Until you find actual toad with a shield.
Umm, well, that makes things complicated for sure.
Kuda=horse.
Y'all right white boy
You may not post in this thread if no one from your country has ever become a World Champion in chess.
In Iceland,
Riddari = Knight
H8rz gon h8
pure autism
What?
It jumps. Therefore it's a jumper, desu ne?
