My grandpa fought in the early stages of WW2 and lost two of his fingers as a result.
I have an ancestor that fought in Napoleon's Grande Armée, another that fought in the Vendée uprising, and another, a noble, that was killed in the storming of the Bastille.

Both of my great grandpas have interesting story of WW2.
First one is a macedonian serb who joined the macedonian partisans and at the end of the war he was accused by some jealous cunt for being a serb nationalist (chetnik) and had to change his surname to survive. He was never a chetnik, he hated them, worshipped Tito and was Yugosloven.

The other grandpa at first was forcefully mobilized by the serb chetniks, then he escapes somehow but shortly after is mobilized by the bulgarian fascist army where he falls of from a horse, brakes his leg and goes back to his village.
