My writing is really inconsistent. I remember we had "pen license" at my primary school, and I didn't get mine for ages because I wanted to use cursive but the teacher didn't like it.

Cursive usually looks something like , but you still connect the letters without writing the actual cursive letters especially your b and f.

my handwriting is overly large and i would always run out of space where others would have plenty, and i could only write in cursive because there was never any relevant context for learning to handwrite print style

To be honest its the same here. It looks good in theory but most people have horrible handwritting. Its impossible to read badly written cursive. So most ditch it in later school years because it sucks if the teacher cant read what you wrote on the test.
