Well, it didn't.
exactly, which is why it lasted for a millennium
>duchies
are not independent so i don't get your confusion
>fewer than 10000 people
My home village and the surrounding farms were once an own country. We were a pirate harbour and kicked Hamburg's ass.
Since the HRE existed for almost 1000 years I'd say it worked quite well. I also hope that this is the future of Europe. Communitarism is our only hope to preserve our identities
>tfw free Imperial city
based, total balkanization is the future
>every village for himself against giants like China and the USA is our only hope
retarded
>tfw you will never be united with your lorraine bros again :(
>Rotwyl
Rottweil?
Dithmarschen?
jo Rottweil
was this the GOAT german border?
Almost, but Dithmarschen is pretty based desu
en.wikipedia.org
That's not a bad thing
It did though
Based Schwaben, most beautiful castles in Germany
imo, pic related was the closest it came to perfection
parts still missing here were: Alsace-Lorraine, South Tyrol, Luxemburg, Eupen-Malmedy, Danzig Corridor & Memel
but Hitler had to completely sperg out and fuck it all up
God damn, those borders trigger my autism. Here, I fixed it.
I had something like pic related in mind
No reason to annex the whole of Bohemia
Like The Staates in the US, just.... Worse...
Sure, your version includes rightful German clay, but I just can't stand the fact that those provinces are so close to being connected but they're not, resulting in an ugly-looking border to the east.
Having your country split in two like that looks ugly. Although we have Alaska.
borders aren't about aesthetics, that's autism
YEAAAAAAAAHÖÖÖÖÖÖÖÖÖÖÖÖÖÖÖÖÖÖÖÖÖÖ
>How did this function?
same as the European union
HRE in this form only really existed for 150 years. Before it was more centralised.
>Hamburg
Prussia has the best borders; the only discounted state which has ever been aesthetic. I'm glad they lost to Napoleon so we didn't get fat Prussia
wtf is up with the small bit of prussia in northwest switzerland?
Implying it isn't still here
I too, would like to see the return of medieval europe
Why is there always an american making threads when they ask stuff. Are you all CIA agents?
This is your brain on village ultra-nationalism.
Fucking Albions.
Anglos are the only reason Prussia existed

Prussia was already losing land because of Napoleon; wouldn't have been long until he balkanized it completely
>wouldn't have been long until he balkanized it completely
baseless claim, plus it was Russia who pushed back Napoleon and ended his supremacy over Germany, Anglos did very little in that war of the sixth coalition
>inb4 muh Waterloo
half of the "British" army was made up of Germans and the British would've been btfo hadn't it been for Blücher and his Prussians
>baseless claim
Napoleon has many exampled of making potential threats weaker by creating or strengthening states loyal to him
yes, for example Prussia in 1806. Prussia quickly implemented reforms and became strong enough to be instrumental in the defeat of Nappy 1813-15
if you want to make the claim Nappy would've somehow abolished Prussia entirely I would like to see anything even remotely resembling evidence
>strong enough to be instrumental in the defeat of Nappy 1813-15
But not on their own. It was GBR that supplied the war efforts for the entity of Napoleons reign, and the Russians who had the meat of the army. If Prussia was on their own do you really think they could resist Napoleon? Especially with retards like Blucher being their best general
>But not on their own.
no, and I didn't say or imply it either you cunt
but neither could GB, it was reliant on continental allies to defeat Napoleon
I didn't say they did it own their own; I said Prussia would cease to exist without GB, which is true
(1) Prussia's sovereignty was secured by Russia defeating Napoleon in 1812-13, not GB
(2) You still didn't provide any evidence whatsoever to the thesis that Prussia would somehow cease to exist without GB
>(1) Prussia's sovereignty was secured by Russia defeating Napoleon in 1812-13, not GB
Except Russia didn't defeat Napoleon
>(2) You still didn't provide any evidence whatsoever to the thesis that Prussia would somehow cease to exist without GB
Like I said Napoleon destroyed those who he saw as threats and used the land to create allies. He took land away from Prussia to create Warsaw; if Prussia continued to rebel can you explain why he wouldn't again?

try again
>no answer
m8 when you're just making shit up that's not really worth addressing
What am I making up? Did Napoleon never create the Duchy of Warsaw?
But even Hitler said that south Tyrol geographically belonged to Italy
Russia did defeat Napoleon, that's not debatable
He did create the Duchy of Warsaw, but that was a peace treaty with Prussia, Prussia and Austria were still sovereign states, he couldn't do anything with them he wanted
In his invasion against Russia Prussia and Austria idly stood by, if he had tried to completely abolish their states they would've certainly gone to war, now with their military reforms implemented, they would certainly be a tough nut to crack
GB did do a lot, undeniably, but stop being cringy and unrealistic about it please
Russia ran away from Napoleon. It's like running away from a robber and saying you won because he only stole your valuables

stop it
No you stop it. Napoleon lost because all of Europe banded together
Kind of a strawman because defensive treaties happened all the time. When you have smaller polities, cooperative defense is no harder, but finding allies who will aggress with you is much harder.
If Germany hadn't been united, WWI might have been a much smaller local conflict.
Russians defeated Napoleon on their own in 1812.
>Napoleon lost because all of Europe banded together
true
where were the Anglos at Leipzig tho?
