In all likelihood when we fall the country will balkanize. And those empires/republics/etc. will be less powerful, but still really influential.
Who will take our place? Probably EU, China maybe, but it's a long shot.
But this probably won't happen for at least several decades, probably well over a century or two
If the US stays united it will continue to remain the world's most powerful country for decades or even centuries to come
It has the perfect geographic preconditions no other country on earth enjoys
Me.
Honestly I think the US will overextend itself eventually.
With the coming of space colonization the US will of course be the forefront in that. And with that we could very easily face the same consequences as the Spanish and collapse quickly from relevance, or if we're lucky the British and remain prevalent for a long time.

There will be no space colonization because there will be no population boom that would sustain settler colonies.
Nigga our economy is growing rapidly for a developed nation, we're #1 in scientific and technological innovation, if we're not on the forefront in every field we're top 3 at least. Our citizens live very, very comfortable lives. In what universe are we close to collapse? We didn't collapse during the Great Depression, we stayed together after a fucking civil war, even the 1990s were more hectic than today.
I will take you and your wife's son's place loser
I'm talking about periods of hundreds of years user.
Rome, Spain, Britain, France, Germany. They all claimed all of those at one point in time. Yet now the US does. Nobody holds onto that forever.
France and Germany weren't even in the same ballpark as us at their peak. We're like Britain on steroids in terms of population, landmass, and thus resources. We're in a much better position than Rome too, we have no enemies chipping away at our borders, and technology makes communication and administration that much easier.
No country is in such a powerful position as the US is naturally in, so we can't apply the same historical standards.
Good points. But the Soviet Union should be a reminder just how quick and unexpected an empire can fall.
The US will not stop being a great power at least for several hundred years in the future. Geographically, geopolitically, economically but also institutionally and demographically it has the edge right now.
However several emerging economies might be able to challenge the US status as the only super power and result in a more fragile and uncertain multipolar world.
The evil Chinese who comes into ones country then start to scream and cry on the pavement and then act like innocent victims even though they were a threat to civilians and staff
We, of course.
You do not rule. The Romans ruled. The Brits ruled. You just sort off bully and faff about.

>France and Germany weren't even in the same ballpark as us at their peak
The peak which could be achieved hundreds of years ago is not the peak which can be achieved with the means of today.
You'd have to compare it taking the enviroment into consideration. Rome for example was in relative terms much larger than any other empire known back then and it was top for more than 300 years while the US has been the top dog only for a few decades.
We shall remember that when we get some power mein freund.
But we shall be benevolent.
No hard feels :^)
>more fragile and uncertain multipolar world
You’re that guy who rekt that edgy Canadian the other day, I think. I remember you, because you used the exact same term then. Bravo.
after ww2 the US set up a world order in which it (and others) can prosper
free trade routes, access to the worlds resources etc
what they're doing now and since after ww2 is trying to curtail any threat or upcoming challanger to that world order
Make Constantinople Greek again!
