I can understand the argument against unpaid politicians saying that it would create a situation of plutocracy, where only the rich have the possibility of being able to live while being a politician, but once you earn more than the majority of the population this argument goes down the water.

It's a problem here too, and one that I'm afraid will never be solved because politicians aren't representing the people like they're supposed to, but rather their own interests.
