Let's have an actual discussion on this topic so that we can be better informed as citizens of this great nation. How does the IRS know what's in your account? Do they file a request for information from your bank? Does it require paperwork? A subpoena? What indicates to them that they should do this in the first place?
My understanding is that two things exist which might indicate to the IRS that you are a possible target for investigation: CTRs and SARs. A CTR is a form that is filed when you transact any amount over $10,000. An SAR is essentially any amount deemed suspicious by the body responsible for handling your money, usually your bank. So, if you're a NEET and you suddenly start depositing $9,000 a day for three months straight, you will likely have a large number of SARs filed by your bank. Moreover, you will be guilty of something called 'structuring,' because you're most likely intentionally trying to stay under the $10k threshold.
