AKSHUALLY Arabs didn't invest or use sabers in large numbers until centuries after Muhammad, before then and even when they were using curved swords they used double-edged straight swords in large numbers or swords borrowed from wherever they could get them really. Early Muslims borrowed a shit ton of Persian/Byzantine weaponry as they moved out of the peninsula for instance.

Iron forging was a core component of many West African cultures. Portuguese merchants actually had a tough time breaking into local iron trading because their tools and weapons (or at least, the ones they brought to Africa) were comparatively lower quality with more impurities than locally produced iron.
