>be me >dad watches a lot of hockey >slowly learn more about Finland through hockey >dad also tells me about his Finnish friend back in the day when he used to play as a hobby >begin reading about Finnish history on my own >instinctual freedom senses triggered by Winter/Continuation/Lapland Wars >this year finally go to Helsinki >meet my dad's hockey friend >go to the Carnival of Lights with his family >they give me delicious Karl Fazer chocolate to take home >go to Suomenlinna the next day
I unfortunately had to leave shortly after that. But I really want to go back and stay for much longer.
Please share interesting facts about Finland, maybe I will learn something new today

I've read more than that though. I've read some about the Swedish period prior to 1809, and the Russian period afterwards. Also prehistory but that's obvious

Helsinki isn't proper Finland it's a wannabe international pseudometropol.
Fun fact: finland was supposed to be a monarchy with prince Frederick Charles of Hesse as its king, but germany got so fucked in ww1 that the everyone pretty much decided it was probably for the best to forget the whole thing. His whole title was supposed to be: "King of Finland and Karelia, Duke of Ă…land, Grand Duke of Lapland, Lord of Kaleva and the North"
I think the guy still has some relatives alive that could technically claim right to the crown, would be pretty memey if that ever happened.
Yeah you're right, I know. I really wanted to visit other places and see the country proper but the time I had for this trip was so short, unfortunately. Maybe someday

Apparently one reason why vikings avoided colonising/invading too deep into finland was that they tought finns were some kind of shamans/witches n shieet. Dont know if they really belived it or if its just some scandi saga exaggerating.
Whats the best way to learn finnish? Can't find any good websites to do it.

You should definitely go back and stay permanently. I think you will do very well there becase you like the country. You should do everything in your power to permanently settle in Finland, OP. Good luck!
