it's very sad to be honest
I'm from the middle of nowhere Maine and both sides of my family are French. my great grandparents spoke only French, grandparents went back and forth between the two languages, and my parents don't speak it at all
with my generation people started dropping the French pronunciation of the family names. aside from food, none of the culture is celebrated whatsoever

They use to say in my city that you needed a passport to go to the west side because everybody there spoke french. Now they tell you to look out for needles
