You can get a good litre bottle of "simple" wine like Müller-Thurgau for €3 here from local growers. Other varieties like Riesling, Chardonnay, Grauburgunder... for the same price as 0.7 bottle. Maybe €4-5 for Spätlese (high sugar/alcohol late harvest)

I'm in the middle of a wine growing area (about 20% of the whole municipal area is vineyards), yet I'd never spend more than €5 for a bottle (unless it's some very special stuff like "Trockenbeerenauslese" where you let the grapes hang well into winter until they're almost dried up - this makes an extremely sweet, almost liquor-like wine and it's only meant for special occasions)
