did we win?

Trump is so incompetent he actually did worse in this trade war than any economist predicted.
In the beginning, even left-leaning economists thought that the economy was too big for Trump to lose the trade war.

their opponent is mentally handicapped

I seriously cannot figure out how Trump lost so badly...even CNN and the NYT said that the impact would be minimal if Trump lost..but look at the stock market now.

maybe starting a trade war isn't he best thing to do after you've created an insane level of deficit through retarded fiscal poilicies
most likely because you actually need to read books to run a country

The trade war was an instant loss when Trump gave a speech and inadvertently let slip that he doesn't understand what tariffs are. He claimed that the tariffs would help pay for American jobs, as if tariffs are a tax paid to the government and not just an extra cost that will be passed onto the consumer

Socialism is inevitable full stop

>(((investors))) dump their own countries' stocks for some other shitholes
just who could be behind this?

What an absolutely humiliating year for right wingers and neoliberalis alike.

They've read enough books

The idea behind tariffs is that it encourages americans to make shit instead of importing it since it undoes the advantage there is in importing cheaper goods

Trump was right and you're wrong

What does that even mean?

This idea is pants on head retarded for several reasons:
- the US manufacturing output has actually doubled since the 80s; the whole "we don't make anything anymore" narrative is not rooted in reality
- the biggest culprit by far behind the decrease in manufacturing jobs is automation; that is only going to get worse
- outsourcing some manufacturing abroad allows those products to remain affordable, putting more money in the economy
- even without China, manufacturers still have no incentive to go back to the US if they can get better conditions elsewhere; you'd have to tarrif the entire world, completely tanking your trade and economy in the process
- tarrifs are simply passed onto consumers, increasing prices across the board and once again damaging your economy
- upset, turbulent markets harm everybody

If pretty much all the economists in the world are telling you that your ideas are fucking idiotic, it's time to listen.

If trump werent an idiot he would have signed the free trade deal with us. Regulatory hurdles are bigger on EU side america would have it easier to sell here. But it seems he has so little faith in american products he needs to go full protectionist.

A recession was inevitable anyway. Cycles are inherent to market economies. The trade war just makes things worse.

Which means others will limit your exports to them in turn. I recommend moving to North Korea if you want to enjoy your trade-free utopia.

A trade deficit is never a good idea.

Those guys are all thinking they'll be killing it during the initial rise and leave the other suckers with the useless stock once it plateaus. They're betting on the government bailing over-extended Chinese companies out and to stimulate consumer spending with cash injections before it comes crashing down and they're making a good best since the government is too shit scared of losing face:

First you have expand fast start-ups imploding:
edition.cnn.com/2018/12/21/tech/ofo-china-bike-sharing-crisis/index.html

Here comes the stimulus (desperate cash injection):

Faking figures so dumbass investors will flow more capital into China and judging by the OP it is working:
asia.nikkei.com/Economy/China-sparks-suspicion-as-it-holds-release-of-statistics

There is also a lot of shady as fuck balance sheet manipulation, some companies (previous published articles conveniently disappeared off channels recently) are "selling" assets (since practically no money exchange occurs, its all magic money internal balance sheet numbers) to their own parent holding companies at inflated prices so that they don't appear in the red so that the government can still claim everything is well and debt is under control.

I thought foreigners couldn't buy stocks in Chinese companies?

>What are floating exchange rates

True, China is fucked too. Way too much debt and way too fucked up companies and a ridiculous housing market bubble bigger than the one in the US and Europe by miles.

>borrow more money and buy my shit

Something that doesn't exist within the eurozone

We're talking about the us here not Europe or the eurozone.

Look man, if you see your rival being a massive retard, would you not take advantage of it?

The Eurozone doesn't even cover the whole EU, let alone the whole world. Even if you tried to limit your braindead theory to Greece, it's still retarded.

There's a limit to what monetary policy can do. Preferring domestic production over foreign is always better.

Not if you're ending up paying more and indirectly supporting an inefficient business whose resources could have been used better.

>greek economists

Attached: 1544371738359.jpg (474x381, 25K)

>Preferring domestic production over foreign is always better
No, it's inefficient, particularly when it comes to capital goods.
And what's with your simpleton's use of "never" and "always"? This is a nuanced issue which you refuse to see.

What part of preferance for domestic production and limiting imports don't you understand? Foreign capital inflows is a not a solid indicator to prove prosperity in any country. They can leave as easy as they came.

>implying trump wasn't behind china this entire time

>Lets support business that charge a higher price and deliver an inferior product
>Let's not acknowledge foreigners can make certain things better and more efficient

You know this is just hurting you right?

You're helping a small group of producers and a small amount of workers at the expense of the majority of the population.

It's pretty efficient for China for example. Besides, lowering wages is the current strategy across the world in order to antagonise China. Trade deficit is what mostly determines if you're going into debt or not, for most countries.

China is suffering more than the U.S. is though you may not like it.
I disagree with Trump on most things but I actually think this trade war was a good move. May as well start it now while we have the stronger economy than later when China has the advantage.

>Lets support business that charge a higher price and deliver an inferior product
How can know that this will always be the case? This is a free market and antagonism still stands. If you're depriving domestic producers from capital by purchasing their products how will they be able to finance r&d for example? exclusively through bank loans?

>capital by purchasing
*not purchasing

China imports capital goods

you think that a guy that graduated from an ivy league business school doesnt know what a tariff is?

Attached: 1542832977177.gif (250x220, 1.58M)

trump believes that climate change is a chinese hoax

Because if it wasn't the case you didn't have to make sure people only bought domestic. If domestic was better then we wouldn't have this conversation. How does it affect is negatively if someone else makes a better product at a better price. If they do that we can focus on other things where we are more efficient in.

NO NO NO

Attached: c1702c5d4d0c06c957fb06752b4ca7e0.png (1280x900, 237K)

wtf does that have to do with anything i asked?
are you going to start talking like a normal person or just spam dogshit?

Well you have to start from somewhere to beat competition even if that means paying more in the early stages. That's what the Japs did in the 60ies and now they are a dominant producer in the automobile industry.

if a person who graduated from a ivy league believes that climate change is a chinese hoax, it's not a big leap that the same person wouldn't know what a tariff is.

It only proves further that he's a fucking idiot and also that in USA you can get any title you want if you have enough money.

Except that's not how market economies work, that's literally like saying, "Our building has strong foundations, we should start fracking the bedrock underneath it."
