Google has such a large market share that you can't speak of a free market anymore. They can decide which websites become a success or not. And which social influences become a success or not. So they have a lot more responsibility than other companies, as they dictate the market.

I own a travel website. And I can see first hand what's happening on the internet. And it isn't pretty.
On the Dutch part of the internet everyone just follows the law and fulfills his role. The hosters host, unless it's against the law. But on the American web a small group of people without any legislative powers is trying to dictate the laws over the majority of the internet. And they even form pacts to do so. I honestly don't even know if it's legal if you and a group of competitors together decide to deplatform people you don't like. It sounds like very anti-competative behaviour and you have antitrust laws against that.

But in the Netherlands we have 13 political parties in parliament. In the USA you have 2 parties with any power, which somehow try to encompass just as many ideologies as we have parties. I don't think democrats and conservatives are a homogeneous group. Or that all democrats are in favour of this and all conservatives against it.
