All the schools in my district have always had 3-6 school police each and it's not a particularly dangerous district, just a lot of fights.

they're not there to be guards retard, they're there to make sure everyone's safe from each other

and a lot of school district don't have enough money to afford school police, though honestly it should be a national thing. pretty sure stoneman douglas didn't have school police, don't quote me on that though.
another thing, most school police aren't armed unless an actual shooting happened. most of the times they wouldn't be able to prevent a school shooter with much more than a taser. they're not there to prevent things of that caliber, they're there to prevent fights and handle threats (they would search lockers when a kid got mad and said he would blow up the school, for example)
