Or how could you have missed the incredibly high-profile cystic phibrosis case a few months ago? The only reason insurances now cover cystic phibrosis medication is because there was a huge outcry (due to media involvement) and the masses forced the hand of the government.
European health care is facing problems equivalent to those in America, where (sometimes lifesaving) treatments simply aren't covered because they're too expensive. It's just a lot more of a problem there because American insurance agencies (unlike in the Netherlands) can refuse clients.
